My Comeback Story: Douglas B.

Kevin MacPherson, PA - a magician!

(Before I start, please note that I have never seen an actual MD at OrthoSC, only Kevin MacPherson, PA, as he always takes care of my problems. To me, he is as good, if not better, than many MD's I have dealt with in my lifetime. However, this site required that I put in an MD name so I randomly selected one.) Without getting into long specifics, I have had life long issues and chronic pain dealing with my back and spine from a trauma accident at age 18. I recently went to see Kevin MacPherson at OrthoSC with a slightly new issue. Kevin has been treating my various issues, mainly with my elbows and shoulders, for the past 12 years - even before he moved to South Carolina as we both lived in the same city up north. A couple years after I moved to the Myrtle Beach area, I was happy to find out that he relocated here as well. My new issue was strong pain at base of my neck, especially when I turn my head or try to sleep. I initially thought it was a pulled muscle and would go away in a few days. But it didn't. So, I made an appointment to see Kevin. Upon arrival for my appointment, and before I saw him, they gave me an x-ray. When I did see Kevin, I explained my problem and he asked a few questions while doing a brief examination. I then asked if it was a disc issue. He chuckled and said no because I have no discs left in that area and the next word out of his mouth was Posture. He suggested we start with a least invasive treatment plan first. Namely, he suggested I change/improve my posture, specifically when using my laptop so that I look straight ahead rather than constantly looking down towards my lap. And, he also suggested some physical therapy exercises. So, I changed my computer posture and before making a series of appointments at a physical therapist, I decided to first try some PT exercises by myself at home. I called a physical therapist I know and she gave me 5 simple ones I could do at home that only took 10 minutes a day (very similar to ones I saw online). After several days, the pain started to abate and after a week or so it was gone. No shots, epidurals or surgery. I no longer do those exercises everyday but if I start feeling the slightest pain in my neck starting, I simply do them for a day or two which then eliminates/stops any pain recurrence. I am amazed how Kevin has always identified my issues spot on each time I see him and then cures them. I highly recommend him. And by the way, never a wait more than 5 minutes or so at OrthoSC.
