Max D. Gehrman, M.D., a fellowship-trained sports medicine and shoulder surgeon at OrthoSC, has earned his Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. With his prior certification in orthopedic surgery, this achievement makes him double-board-certified by the same board. The Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine recognizes orthopedic surgeons who have demonstrated advanced expertise and extensive experience in sports medicine care. To qualify, surgeons must meet rigorous national standards, including:
- Completion of a one-year accredited fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine.
- Providing care for a high volume of surgical and nonsurgical sports medicine cases.
- Demonstrating specialized skill in arthroscopic, minimally invasive procedures.
- Successful completion of an examination administered by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Gehrman received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison. He then completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dr. Gehrman has provided medical coverage for elite athletes and served as a team physician for numerous sports teams and organizations.
